AI app builder credits explained: Lovable vs Bolt vs Replit vs v0 (2026)
Prices and facts checked on each tool's official site. Plans change often, so confirm before you pay.
Ran out of credits before your first app was even published? It's one of the most common beginner complaints about AI app builders. Every builder meters the AI's work, but each one counts it differently, so "$25 a month" doesn't buy the same thing everywhere. Here's what you actually get, in plain English.
The short answer
Lovable charges credits per message, scaled to the work. Bolt counts tokens, which grow as your project grows. Replit Agent spends dollar credits per task, priced by effort, with a no-cost Free Mode on paid plans. v0 spends dollar credits on tokens at each AI model's rate. None of them is "unlimited", and the best value depends on how you build.
What each plan includes
| Tool | What it counts | Free plan | Entry paid plan | Unused allowance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable | Credits, charged per message based on the work done | 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month), plus 20 Cloud credits a month for hosting | Pro $25/mo: 100 credits ($21/mo billed yearly) | Monthly credits expire 2 months after they're issued; daily credits don't roll over |
| Bolt.new | Tokens (pieces of text the AI reads and writes) | 1M tokens a month, max 300K a day | Pro $25/mo: 10M tokens ($18/mo billed yearly) | Paid tokens stay valid for 2 months; free tokens don't roll over |
| Replit Agent | Dollar credits, charged per Agent task by effort | Starter: daily Agent credits (Lite build), 1 published app that goes offline after 30 days | Core $20/mo: $20 of credits plus a Free Mode allowance ($18/mo billed yearly) | Core credits reset every billing cycle, no rollover |
| v0 | Dollar credits, charged per token at the model's rate | 7 messages a day (new users also get $5 of one-time credits) | Plus $30/user/mo: $30 of credits plus $2 of free credits each day you log in | Paid credits roll over for one month |
What does one change cost?
- Lovable publishes real examples: "make the button gray" costs 0.50 credits, "remove the footer" 0.90, "add sign up and login" 1.20, and a landing page with 3 generated images 1.70. A Plan mode message is 1 credit. On Pro, a credit works out to $0.25, so adding login costs about 30 cents. You can see each message's cost in your chat history.
- Bolt has no fixed price per message. Bolt says most token use comes from reading and syncing your project's files, so the same request costs more in a big project than in a new one.
- Replit Agent prices each finished task by how much work it took, and asks you to confirm before paid work starts. On Core and Pro, Free Mode does everyday Agent work at no cost within an allowance that resets every five hours, with a weekly cap.
- v0 bills tokens at each model's rate. Its v0 Mini model costs $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens, v0 Pro costs $2 and $10, and v0 Max $5 and $25. Your chat history and files count as input, which is why short prompts can still use a lot.
When do limits reset?
- Lovable: daily build credits at midnight UTC; monthly credits each month.
- Bolt: free tokens on the 1st of each month (plus the 300K daily cap, which resets daily); paid tokens on your renewal date.
- Replit: Core credits each billing cycle; Free Mode every five hours, up to a weekly limit.
- v0: paid credits monthly, plus $2 of daily credits when you log in.
What happens when you run out
- Lovable: building stops, and a message that was mid-build pauses until you add credits (then click Resume). Your published pages stay live, but the built-in backend and any AI features in your app pause once their monthly grant and your credits are gone. On Pro you can top up at $15 per 50 credits (valid 12 months); on Free you upgrade or wait for tomorrow's 5 credits.
- Bolt: on Free, wait for the daily or monthly reset. You can still edit your code yourself in Code view, which uses no tokens. On Pro, Bolt says upgrading to a bigger token tier is the cheapest way to get more. Token reloads are only offered on the top monthly Pro tier and annual Pro plans, and reloaded tokens don't expire.
- Replit: on Core, work beyond your $20 of credits is billed pay-as-you-go unless you set a usage limit (Settings → Usage → Manage limits). You can also buy credit packs, which last six months. Be careful with the "service shutdown" limit: when it's reached, your services, including your live app, are suspended until the next billing cycle or until you raise it.
- v0: generation pauses until you buy more credits in your settings. Free users have to upgrade first.
How to make your credits last
- Make your first app do one tiny thing. One screen and one job. Add features only after it works.
- Plan first, then build. One clear message describing the whole feature costs less than five small corrections.
- Stop after two failed fixes. Go back to the last version that worked and describe the bug exactly (what you clicked, what you expected, what happened) instead of asking it to "fix it" again.
- Do tiny text and color tweaks yourself. In Bolt, editing in Code view is free.
- Start a new chat for each new task on Replit and v0, so the AI isn't re-reading a long history every time.
- Set an alert before you need it. Lovable has low-balance alerts and usage limits in Workspace settings; Replit has usage limits and budgets.
Which gives the most for your money?
It depends on how you build. Lots of small edits to a small web app? Lovable's per-message pricing is easy to predict. Long sessions on one prototype? Bolt's 10M tokens go far while the project is small, and unused tokens roll over. Games, bots or a lot of everyday changes? Replit Core's Free Mode can do much of that at no extra cost, but set a usage limit. Mostly pages and designs? v0's daily login credits help, and the Mini model is the cheapest. Start on the free plan, see how fast you use it, and only then pay. Why did I run out of Lovable credits so fast?
Every build message costs credits based on how much work it does, and the free plan gives 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month). Big requests, image generation and repeated "try to fix" loops add up fast. Plan the feature first, send one clear message, and stop after two failed fixes.
Is Bolt's 10M tokens more than Lovable's 100 credits?
You can't compare them directly. A Lovable credit is priced by the work a message does (a small style change is about half a credit). A Bolt token is a piece of text the AI reads or writes, and most tokens go on re-reading your project files, so each message costs more as your app grows. Both Pro plans cost $25 a month.
Does my app go offline when I run out of credits?
On Lovable, your published pages stay live, but the built-in backend (database, logins, storage) and AI features in the app pause until you add credits. On Replit, a usage limit set to shut services down can suspend your live app when it's reached, and the free Starter plan's one published app goes offline after 30 days.
Do unused credits roll over?
On paid plans, mostly yes for a while: Lovable monthly credits expire two months after they're issued, Bolt tokens stay valid for two months, and v0 credits roll over for one month. Replit Core credits reset each billing cycle and don't roll over. Free-plan daily allowances never roll over.
Can I buy extra credits on a free plan?
No. Lovable, v0 and Replit all ask you to upgrade before you can buy more, and Bolt's free plan has no reloads. On free plans you wait for the daily or monthly reset instead.
